Welcome to SHAG!

SHAGLARP stands for "Sifton House Associated Gamers Live Action Role Playing". It was created by 5 friends in response to the growing need for a diverse LARP portal in the Portland Metro Area. Our hope is to provide a community for LARPers to meet, discuss, find resources, as well as network and find games. We support many forms of LARP, from troupe games, to Amtgard, to CAM. We offer many amenities for LARPers:

Forum: You will need to register to post, but you can read anything on the forum as a guest. (We only require registration to post in order to manage SPAM.)

Calendar: A place to find LARP related events; from games, to one-shots, to conventions, to events where one might get costuming or props, all in the Portland, Vancouver, Salem circle. (Check out SHAG's first One Shot posted in December!)

News: Right now the news is just for events and site updates, but we hope to have news eventually about the LARP community in the NW.

Database: A database full of articles from running LARP, role-playing, costuming, props, playing LARP, as well as other resources.

Links: Links to LARP related sites, as well as LARP games in the area (as we find them...)

Photos: Pictures from conventions, games and one shots. (Because the gallery is hosted by Coppermine, you will have to register again in the photo section if you want to upload any photos of your own.)

And we are always looking for more. We encourage everyone to submit their ideas and opinions in the forums. You can also submit events to the calendar, and news and database articles by submitting news. Feedback is ALWAYS appreciated. And don't forget to recommend us to a friend if you like what you see here!

Thank you, from everyone on the SHAG team.

Upcoming Events Important Reminder About SHAGLARP One-Shots

RSVP! RSVP! Please remember to go to the calendar (bottom left side of the page), click on the month of the one-shot you want to play, click on that one-shot, scroll down to the end of the page and RSVP for that game, so that the GM knows for sure that you're planning on playing (and note that you can go ahead to the next few months and RSVP for those, as well, if you wish).

  Movie Review: Role Models

Role Models, starring Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd, as well as Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin from Superbad) was hilarious and better than it should have been.

Movie Reviews SHAGLARP Movie Reviews Rating System

Sometimes there's a movie out there that has something to offer the LARP crowd and, more than likely, one of us has seen it. So, we've developed a rating system to let you know if this is something you want to spend your hard earned money on. The system is a basic 1-5 point system (from 1 being the worst to 5 being the best).

Upcoming Events Events: World Zombie Day

October 26th is World Zombie Day, and Portland celebrates it in style. Please attend the Portland Zombie Walk, Sunday, October 26th, at 4:00PM in Pioneer Courthouse Square, Downtown Portland. The walk is free, and there is an after-party after all the shambling and groaning has been done. The site doesn't list the venue, it does promise a very small venue fee, and says that all profits will be donated to the Oregon Food Bank. It is an all ages venue, with a special section for 21+ to drink at a bar, and it looks like there is going to be some good music featuring punk, horror, psycho and rockabilly bands.

For more information, please check out the events calendar, and/or go to http://groups.myspace.com/pdxzombies

There is also more information in the Read More section

LARP News LARP News: The Green Fairy for Cthulhu Live

Skirmisher Publishing (the publishers of Cthulhu Live 3rd Edition) have recently released a script (module) for the Live Action horror game called The Green Fairy. It is set in Paris at the turn of the 19th century where the Bohemian lifestyle rules the night. A murderer by the name of Raptor haunts the neighborhood of Montmartre, leaving it's inhabitants afraid to leave their homes once night falls. Some, however, visit an absinthe bar called "The Green Fairy," a hot spot for artists, whores, and criminals. The module sets up a night of terror in this very bar.

LARP News LARP News: Role Models - Movie with LARP!

A new movie is coming out, November 7th, 2008, called Role Models. It stars Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd, as well as Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin from Superbad) starring as our own little knight in foam armor. The basic plot is Scott and Rudd get in trouble with the law, and must do 150 hours of community service with children in order to avoid jail. The kid Rudd gets is a boffer/SCA/LARP freak, wielding foam swords, wooden shields, and sewing felt crests. The trailer looks really cute, and can be found HERE on YouTube.

Site Updates Site Updates: New Forum Boards

Two new forum boards have been created.
The first is a Rideshare board that allows SHAG members to post ride requests/offers to LARP events.
The second is an Updates board where you can find the latest updated from the SHAG moderators. We will try and post updates in the News section of the site, but in case we forget, please check out the board in case we forgot to post it in the news section.

LARP News LARP News: New Changeling: The Lost supplement

So, on October 8th White Wolf released another book for the Changeling: The Lost series called Night Horrors: Grim Fears. So far, the book has not been what I expected (I don't particularly know what I expected) but is rather a collection of beasts and boogies that you can find in the Changeling world. I akin the book to D&D’s Monster Manuals.

  Site Updates Site Statistics

As requested by DragonflyDreamer, I have added a Site Statistics blurb just below the login/who's online block on the right hand side. It will give you a basic tally of how many views the site has had since it's beginning, the current month, and latest day. Since I have to update it manually, it will most likely be the day previous, since I am on here at midnight creating a backup every day as it is (ie. on October 11th, you will see October 10ths data). If you would like to see more detailed information, there is a link provided, which will give you most popular browsers, most popular operating systems, and even a breakdown of hits per hour.

  Upcoming Events Events: Orycon 30, November 21 - 23, 2008

Oregon's premier sci-fi and fantasy convention, with discussion panels, art, merchandise, dances, masquerade ball, over 1500 attendees, lots of people in costumes, games, food and fun! This will be the thirtieth one of these, so the celebrations could be big. Come and join the fun. It's coming up very soon, so get your memberships. Preregistration is ALWAYS better than standing in line.
While not specifically a gaming convention, they do hold gaming there along with myriad other events, and the CAM usually has an event at the convention.

This year's theme is DAYS OF FUTURES PAST, A Science Fiction/Fantasy Retrospective.

The convention takes place at:
Portland Marriott Waterfront
1401 SW Naito Parkway, Portland OR 97201

Currently, the rates are $50 until 10/31/08! Children 6-12 $25! The price will go up at the door.
